A spinal cord stimulator is a device that is positioned near the spine which delivers electrical impulses to block pain signals from travelling to the brain. It will not eliminate the source of the pain, it simply changes the way the brain perceives it. Initially, patients are offered a trial stimulator and if this works, a permanent stimulator can be implanted.
