This procedure is used to treat trigeminal neuralgia and involves heating the trigeminal nerves to stop them from sending pain signals to the brain. Trigeminal radiofrequency ablation is a minimally invasive procedure and is a good option for severe pain in high-risk patients that would make an open surgical procedure too dangerous. It can administered as either pulsed or lesion; intraoperative sensory and motor testing can be performed; and the needle is small in calibre and therefore, is less traumatic.
